IMD Predicts Major Weather Shift in Gujarat From This Date
The Southwest Monsoon 2026 is advancing rapidly across India, bringing heavy rainfall to 12 states, including parts of Maharashtra, Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana. As neighbouring regions experience regular downpours, citizens in Gujarat are eagerly waiting for relief from the intense summer heat and humidity.
According to the official India Meteorological Department (IMD) bulletins and leading news portal reports, a significant weather shift is on the horizon. While major urban centers like Ahmedabad and parts of North Gujarat continue to experience cloudy skies paired with high temperatures, pre-monsoon activity is expected to intensify across the state, bringing widespread rain after June 11.
Monsoon Active Across 12 States, Reaches Mumbai
The IMD confirmed that conditions are highly favorable for the further advancement of the Southwest Monsoon. The northern limit of the monsoon has already crossed Mumbai and Konkan regions, covering substantial terrain in Southern and Central India. This strong progression is setting up a perfect atmospheric sync to push monsoon winds directly toward the Gujarat coast over the coming days.
IMD Forecast: Rain to Intensify in South Gujarat and Saurashtra Post June 11
The weather department has charted out a 7-day developmental forecast indicating a step-by-step transition from intense humidity to regular rain showers:
- South Gujarat: Coastal and tribal pockets including Valsad, Navsari, Dang, Tapi, and the union territories of Daman and Dadra & Nagar Haveli are already witnessing isolated light rain. However, from June 11 and 12 onwards, light-to-moderate thunderstorms with gusty winds will expand into Surat, Bharuch, Narmada, and Chhota Udepur.
- Saurashtra & Kutch: While the climate remains largely dry and hot across Rajkot, Jamnagar, and Bhuj over the next 24 hours, coastal belts in Saurashtra are expected to receive localized pre-monsoon showers after June 12 due to moisture-laden winds coming off the Arabian Sea.
Ahmedabad and North Gujarat to Experience Intense Humidity Before Relief
For residents in Ahmedabad and the northern districts, the immediate relief from heat may take a few more days. The IMD predicts a partly cloudy sky for Ahmedabad with maximum temperatures hovering around 42°C. The increased atmospheric moisture will temporarily drive up humidity levels, causing sticky and uncomfortable conditions.
However, by June 13 and 14, weather systems are expected to bring localized thunderstorms to North-Eastern peripheral districts like Panchmahal, Dahod, Mahisagar, and Aravalli.
High-Wind Warning Issued for Fishermen
With a strong south-westerly wind flow dominating the lower tropospheric levels over the Arabian Sea, wind speeds along the Gujarat coast are expected to clock between 40 to 50 km/h. The meteorological center has advised local authorities to maintain caution, and fishermen have been alerted regarding rough sea conditions over the next few days.
Historically, the official onset date for the monsoon in Gujarat falls between June 15 and June 20. Given the timely arrival of the system in Maharashtra, meteorologists estimate that the state will transition into its official sowing and monsoon season right on schedule by the third week of June.
