PM Modi will visit Gujarat on June 5, 2026, coinciding with World Environment Day, to inaugurate and lay the foundation stones for National Highway projects worth ₹12,421 crore. The infrastructure initiatives are expected to significantly improve connectivity across South Gujarat, enhance logistics efficiency, and accelerate regional economic development.
The Prime Minister will inaugurate key sections of the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway and launch four additional National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) projects that will benefit industries, farmers, traders, and commuters across the state.
PM Modi to Inaugurate Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway Packages VI and VII
A major highlight of the visit will be the inauguration of two strategic sections of the Vadodara-Mumbai Expressway, developed at a total cost of ₹7,689 crore.
Kim- Ena Section (Package VI)
The 36-kilometre-long Kim- Ena section has been constructed as part of the ambitious Delhi-Mumbai Expressway corridor. The project includes modern highway infrastructure designed to support high-speed transportation and improve regional connectivity.
Gandeva- Ena Section (Package VII)
The second section, spanning 27.5 kilometres from Gandeva to Ena, will also be opened for public use. Together, both packages feature:
Key Infrastructure Highlights
- Multiple major and minor bridges
- Rail over bridges and flyovers
- Vehicle underpasses (VUPs)
- 70 underpasses for local accessibility
- Two major interchanges
- Seven planned world-class rest areas
- Eight-lane expressway connectivity
The opening of these sections is expected to reduce travel time, facilitate smoother movement of goods, and strengthen the Delhi-Mumbai industrial corridor.
Expressway to Improve Logistics and Industrial Competitiveness
The newly operational expressway sections are expected to play a crucial role in reducing transportation costs and improving supply chain efficiency. The project aligns with the Government of India’s Bharatmala Pariyojana vision of creating a seamless highway network that supports economic growth and industrial expansion.
Improved road connectivity will particularly benefit manufacturing units, exporters, logistics operators, and businesses located across South Gujarat and neighboring regions.
Foundation Stone for Four Additional NHAI Projects Worth ₹4,732 Crore
Along with the expressway inauguration, Prime Minister Modi will lay the foundation stones for four major NHAI projects worth ₹4,732 crore.
These include:
- Four-laning of Dhamasiya–Bitada/Movi section on NH-56 (Package IV)
- Four-laning of Nasarpor–Malotha section on NH-56 (Package VI)
- Six-lane Vehicle Underpass (VUP) near Reliance on Surat-Hazira NH-53
- Six-lane VUP-cum-Flyover at Kavas on NH-53
These projects are expected to strengthen transportation infrastructure and support future economic growth across South Gujarat.
NH-56 Upgrade to Enhance Connectivity in Tribal Districts
The four-laning of NH-56 sections will significantly improve road connectivity between tribal and rural districts of Gujarat.
Districts Expected to Benefit
- Narmada
- Tapi
- Valsad
- Chhota Udepur
The upgraded highway will also provide better access to major tourism destinations such as the Statue of Unity while improving connectivity for agricultural and industrial transport.
Travel Time to Reduce Significantly
The NH-56 upgrade covers a total length of approximately 107.67 kilometres. Upon completion, the project is expected to:
- Reduce travel time by up to 40 minutes
- Increase average vehicle speed by nearly 75%
- Improve freight movement efficiency
- Support industrial and agricultural trade routes
The corridor will connect pharmaceutical clusters, medical manufacturing hubs, fishing and seafood industries, logistics nodes, airports, railway stations, and ports, creating a stronger economic ecosystem in the region.
Hazira to Get New Six-Lane Flyover and Vehicle Underpass
₹149 Crore Project to Ease Heavy Vehicle Traffic
Another significant infrastructure announcement includes the construction of a six-lane flyover and vehicle underpass on the Hazira Port-Surat section of National Highway 53. Developed at an estimated cost of ₹149 crore, the project aims to facilitate uninterrupted movement of heavy commercial vehicles serving Hazira Port and nearby industrial zones.
Benefits for Industry and Commuters
The project is expected to:
- Reduce traffic congestion near Hazira Port
- Improve cargo transportation efficiency
- Enhance road safety for local residents
- Support industrial and maritime trade activities
- Provide smoother travel for daily commuters
With Hazira emerging as one of Gujarat’s important industrial and port hubs, the infrastructure upgrade is expected to have a long-term positive impact on economic activity in the region.
Gujarat’s Infrastructure Push Gains Momentum
The ₹12,421 crore highway package reflects the government’s continued focus on strengthening transportation infrastructure and boosting economic growth through enhanced connectivity. From the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway to NH-56 upgrades and Hazira traffic solutions, the projects are expected to transform mobility across South Gujarat while supporting industries, trade, tourism, and employment generation.
As Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurates and launches these projects on June 5, Gujarat moves another step closer toward becoming one of India’s most connected and infrastructure-driven growth regions.
