The announcement is particularly significant for travellers from Surat, Bharuch, Vadodara and other parts of South and Central Gujarat who frequently travel to Rajasthan for tourism, business and family trips.

Train Will Not Run on Tuesdays
The Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat will operate six days a week, with Tuesday as the weekly off day. This schedule provides passengers with regular weekday and weekend connectivity between South Gujarat and Rajasthan. The service is also expected to be useful for tourists planning trips to Udaipur, one of Rajasthan’s major tourism destinations.
Existing Udaipur-Asarva Vande Bharat to Be Discontinued
The new Surat-Udaipur service comes with a major change to the existing Vande Bharat network.
The Railway Board has approved the discontinuation of Train Nos. 26963/26964 Udaipur City-Asarva Vande Bharat Express, which currently connects Udaipur with Asarva in Ahmedabad. The existing service was introduced in February 2026 and operated six days a week, except Tuesday. The new Surat-Udaipur service will therefore replace the existing Udaipur-Asarva arrangement while extending the route southwards to Surat.
Major Benefit for Surat Passengers
For Surat residents, the approval is significant because the city will now have a direct Vande Bharat connection to Udaipur.
The service can benefit several categories of travellers, including:
- Tourists travelling to Udaipur
- Business travellers
- Families travelling between Gujarat and Rajasthan
- Wedding and event travellers
- Passengers from South Gujarat
- Travellers heading towards Ahmedabad and northern Gujarat
The train also provides convenient connectivity to Maninagar and Asarva, giving passengers access to two important railway points in the Ahmedabad area.
Surat to Udaipur Travel Gets Faster
The new train is expected to provide a more convenient alternative to road travel between Surat and Udaipur. With the approved journey time of around 7.5 hours, passengers will be able to leave Surat early in the morning and reach Udaipur in the afternoon. The return schedule also allows passengers travelling from Udaipur to leave in the afternoon and reach Surat late at night.
When Will Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat Start?
The Railway Board has approved the service, but the final inaugural date has not yet been officially specified. The Railway Board communication allows the inaugural run to be operated as a special service if required, before the regular timetable is implemented.
Reports indicate that the train is expected to begin operations ahead of the upcoming Navratri season, but passengers should wait for an official railway announcement regarding the exact launch date and ticket booking availability.
A Major Railway Boost for Surat
The approval of the Surat-Udaipur Vande Bharat is an important development for Surat’s railway connectivity.
With direct access to Udaipur and stops across Gujarat and Rajasthan, the new service is expected to improve passenger mobility, support tourism and strengthen the economic connection between South Gujarat and Rajasthan. For Surat, the development also marks the arrival of its first Vande Bharat Express, giving the city another premium rail connection within India’s expanding semi-high-speed railway network.
