Ahmedabad: The Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) Food Safety Department has seals an edible oil repacking unit in the Lambha area after officials found alleged irregularities related to packaging, labelling and product traceability during an inspection on September 11, 2026.
The action was taken at Mamta Agro Proteins, located at Adarsh Estate on Piplaj Road. Officials seized 175 filled edible-oil tins valued at around ₹3.93 lakh and stopped the sale of the stock.
Around 300 Old Oil Tins Found
During the inspection, officials reportedly found around 300 old and used empty oil tins at the premises. The presence of these containers raised concerns over their possible reuse for packing edible oil.
The unit was found to be involved in repacking soybean oil, cottonseed oil and palm oil, according to the Food Safety Department.
AMC Seals Packaging and Labelling Irregularities
Officials also identified prima facie irregularities in the packaging and labelling of the edible-oil products. Labels and other packaging material found at the premises are being examined under applicable food-safety regulations.
The department has not yet concluded the entire investigation, with further scrutiny underway.
Batch and Dispatch Records Missing
Another concern raised during the inspection was the absence of complete records related to previously repacked oil.
Officials said the unit could not provide key batch, lot, repacking, stock and dispatch records for oil that had already been sent to the market.
Such records are important for tracing the source and distribution of food products and, where necessary, conducting targeted recalls.
FSSAI Licence May Face Action
Mamta Agro Proteins holds a Central FSSAI licence. Following the inspection, AMC is expected to forward its findings and supporting evidence to the competent Central Licensing Authority/FSSAI.
Further action could include suspension or cancellation of the licence, depending on the findings of the regulatory process.
AMC Steps Up Food Safety Checks
The latest action comes amid increased food-safety enforcement by AMC against businesses found violating food regulations. The civic body said inspections and legal action would continue to ensure proper packaging, labelling, batch-wise traceability and food safety across the city.
