Hundreds of members of various Hindu organizations and religious leaders took to the streets in Vadodara on Tuesday to protest against cow slaughter.
The protesters marched in a rally to the District Collector’s office and submitted a memorandum demanding that Gau Mata (the cow) be declared the National Mother of India and that stricter laws be implemented to prevent cow slaughter.
As part of the demonstration, protesters also brought a calf to the Collector’s office as a symbolic gesture highlighting the importance of cow protection. The rally witnessed the participation of a large number of activists, religious leaders, and supporters who raised slogans calling for stronger legal action against cow slaughter. The memorandum urged both the state and central governments to introduce stricter legislation for cow protection and recognize the cow as the National Mother.
Addressing the gathering, organizers stated that cow protection is deeply connected to India’s cultural and religious heritage. They appealed to the authorities to forward their demands to the appropriate government departments for consideration.
The protesters also warned that if their demands are not addressed, they would launch a hunger strike in New Delhi. They further cautioned that a nationwide agitation could be initiated if the government fails to take appropriate action.
Viha Bharwad, a prominent Maldhari community leader, reiterated the demand for stronger legal protection for cows and urged the government to act swiftly on the issue. The memorandum was received by the district administration, which assured the delegation that their representation would be forwarded to the concerned authorities. The protest concluded peacefully under police supervision.
