Surat, August 13: As part of Independence Day celebrations, a grand Surat Tiranga Yatra is being organized today, starting from Y-Junction and culminating at Lalbhai Contractor Stadium. To ensure smooth traffic management during the yatra and minimize inconvenience to the general public, Surat City’s officiating Police Commissioner Vabang Jamir has issued a temporary notification.
According to the notification, all types of vehicle movement and parking will be banned on certain major roads from 1 PM today until the event concludes. The police administration has appealed to motorists to use the designated alternate routes.</cite>
Roads Where Traffic Will Be Restricted
Vehicle movement will be closed on the main road from S.K. Nagar Circle to SVNIT Circle and from SVNIT Circle to S.K. Nagar Circle, though the service road can be used. The main road from Jolly Party Plot Circle to Y-Junction will also remain closed, and the route from Jolly Party Plot Circle towards Raghuvir Mall will also be restricted. Vehicle movement and parking will be prohibited on the main road from Magdalla Y-Junction to Gaurav Path Circle.
According to available information, traffic will also be diverted along the routes towards Y-Junction, Pal RTO, Raghuvir Mall, and Gorat, in order to keep the crowd along the yatra route under control.
Alternate Routes to Reach the Airport
Motorists heading to Surat Airport can travel via Athwa Gate to Sardar Bridge, Gujarat Gas Circle, Pal RTO Road and Bhatha village, reaching the airport via ONGC Circle. Alternatively, the airport can also be reached via Gaviyer village to Science City, Anuvrat Dwar Canal Road and Abhva Char Rasta.
Vehicles coming from the airport towards the city can travel via S.K. Nagar Char Rasta to Abhva Chowkdi and Agrawal School towards Anuvrat Dwar. Alternatively, a route via Khajod Chowkdi, Sarsana Dome and Bhimrad Checkpost towards Shyam Mandir, or via the ONGC Overbridge and Hazira Road towards Pal Road, will also be available.
Emergency Vehicles Exempted from Restrictions
Under the notification, police vehicles on duty, ambulances, fire brigade vehicles, Surat Municipal Corporation vehicles, vehicles associated with essential services, and Government of Gujarat official vehicles have been exempted from these restrictions. These vehicles will be permitted to move without any obstruction.
Legal Action Against Violators
The police administration has clarified that this arrangement will remain in effect on August 13 for the Tiranga Yatra and until the event concludes. Motorists who violate the rules on restricted routes will face legal action as per regulations.
Appeal to Citizens for Surat Tiranga Yatra
Surat Traffic Police and the city police administration have appealed to citizens to check their route before stepping out today and, wherever possible, use only the suggested alternate routes, so that any inconvenience or delay during the Tiranga Yatra can be avoided.
