Vote Counting Begins for Surat Municipal Corporation Election 2026
Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) Election 2026 has officially started today and the much-awaited vote counting is take place amid tight security arrangements and large administrative deployment. The counting process is being conducted at Gandhi Engineering Government College located in the Majura area of Surat.
For the first time in Surat Municipal Corporation election history, counting for all wards has been arranged at a single location, making the process more organized and centrally monitored.
The fate of 487 candidates contesting for 120 seats across the city will be decided today as political parties, candidates, and citizens eagerly wait for the final results.
Counting for 30 Wards to Be Conducted in Multiple Rounds
According to election officials, the vote counting process is being carried out for 30 different wards of Surat Municipal Corporation. Depending on the number of votes and booths, each ward will undergo approximately 5 to 10 rounds of counting.

Around 2,000 Staff Deployed for Counting Process

The administration has made all necessary arrangements to ensure that the counting process remains smooth, transparent, and secure.

Tight Police Security at Counting Venue
Heavy police security has been deployed at the Gandhi Engineering Government College counting center to maintain law and order during the sensitive counting process.
A total of 550 police personnel have been stationed at the venue. The security deployment includes 15 Police Inspectors (PI), 30 Police Sub-Inspectors (PSI), 4 ACPs, and 4 DCPs to ensure strict surveillance and crowd control.
Police officials are monitoring every entry and exit point while maintaining a secure perimeter around the counting center. Only authorized personnel with valid passes are being allowed inside the premises.
The administration is taking no chances to avoid any untoward incidents during the result declaration.
Special Heat Management Arrangements at Counting Centre
Considering the rising summer temperatures in Surat, the administration has also made special arrangements for staff and officials working at the counting center.
Temporary mandaps have been installed to provide shade, while drinking water facilities, fans, coolers, and resting areas have been arranged to ensure comfort during the long counting hours. These arrangements are especially important as the counting process may continue for several hours under high temperatures.
Officials stated that the comfort and safety of staff remain a top priority alongside maintaining election transparency.
