In a significant boost to Gujarat’s police leadership, the Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) has promoted six senior officers from the Gujarat Police Service (GPS) to the prestigious Indian Police Service (IPS) cadre. The appointments were officially notified and approval by the President of India under the Select List 2025.
The newly inducted IPS officers will serve in the Gujarat cadre and undergo mandatory probation and induction training before taking up their responsibilities as IPS officers.
Six Gujarat Police Officers Elevated to IPS
The six Gujarat Police Service officers promoted to the IPS are:
- Rajdipsinh N. Nakum
- Bharatkumar B. Rathod
- Praful V. Vania
- Rajeshkumar T. Parmar
- Kalpeshkumar M. Chawda
- Rakesh D. Desai
These officers have earned promotion through the promotion quota after years of distinguished service in the Gujarat Police.
Appointment Under IPS Recruitment Rules
According to the notification issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, the appointments have been made under the provisions of the Indian Police Service (Recruitment) Rules, 1954 and the Indian Police Service (Appointment by Promotion) Regulations, 1955.
The officers have been allocated to the Gujarat Cadre and will remain on one-year probation. They will also undergo mandatory induction training as prescribed under the IPS (Probation) Rules, 1954 before confirmation in the service.
Strengthening Gujarat Police Leadership
The induction of experienced Gujarat Police Service officers into the IPS cadre is expected to strengthen senior-level policing across the state.
Promotion through the IPS quota recognizes officers who have demonstrated outstanding administrative ability, leadership, and long years of public service within the state police force.
