Gujarat Weather: Heavy monsoon activity is set to continue across Gujarat as multiple weather systems become active simultaneously, prompting the India Meteorological Department (IMD) to issue Red, Orange, and Yellow alerts for several districts until July 6. Authorities have advised residents to remain cautious as intense rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds are expected in many parts of the state.
Three Weather Systems Fuel Heavy Rainfall Across Gujarat
According to meteorologists, the current spell of heavy rain is being driven by three major weather systems:
- An upper-air cyclonic circulation over Saurashtra and nearby regions.
- An active offshore trough extending from South Gujarat to Karnataka.
- The seasonal monsoon trough stretching across northern India.
In addition, another upper-air cyclonic circulation over the North Bay of Bengal is expected to develop into a low-pressure area, which could further strengthen monsoon activity across western India over the coming days.
Red Alert Issued for Several South Gujarat Districts
The IMD has placed several districts under Red Alert due to the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall.

- Surat
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Dang
- Tapi
- Daman
- Dadra & Nagar Haveli
- Narmada (on selected days)
These areas may witness extremely heavy rainfall capable of causing flooding, waterlogging, overflowing rivers, and disruption to transportation services.
Orange Alert for Heavy to Very Heavy Rain
Heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in several other districts, including:
- Bharuch
- Vadodara
- Chhota Udepur
- Amreli
- Bhavnagar
- Gir Somnath
- Rajkot
- Junagadh
Residents in these districts have been advised to avoid unnecessary travel during periods of intense rainfall.
Yellow Alert for Thunderstorms and Gusty Winds
A Yellow Alert remains in effect across many parts of Gujarat, including North Gujarat, Central Gujarat, and Saurashtra-Kutch.
Weather conditions may include:
- Thunderstorms
- Lightning
- Wind speeds of 40–50 km/h
- Moderate rainfall
Cities such as Ahmedabad, Gandhinagar, Mehsana, Kheda, Anand, Panchmahal, Dahod, Jamnagar, Morbi, Dwarka, and Kutch are expected to experience intermittent rain accompanied by strong winds.
Saurashtra Also Likely to Receive Heavy Rain
Rainfall activity is expected to intensify across Saurashtra as the cyclonic circulation strengthens.
Districts including:
- Amreli
- Bhavnagar
- Rajkot
- Junagadh
- Gir Somnath
are likely to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall during the next few days.
Authorities Advise Public to Stay Alert during Gujarat Weather Update
The IMD has urged citizens to take necessary precautions during the active monsoon spell.
Residents are advised to:
- Avoid flooded roads and low-lying areas.
- Stay indoors during thunderstorms and lightning.
- Follow official weather advisories.
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.
- Fishermen should avoid venturing into the sea until weather conditions improve.
Heavy Rain Likely Till July 6
Weather officials expect rainfall activity to remain intense until July 6 before gradually easing in most regions. However, isolated heavy showers are likely to continue even after the peak spell, particularly across South Gujarat and parts of Saurashtra.
