Navsari: In view of the upcoming Diwali and Uttarayan festivals, the Navsari administration has issued a public notification imposing restrictions on the use and sale of certain types of kite-flying materials and activities to protect citizens, animals and birds.
According to the notification, a complete ban has been imposed until December 1, 2026, on the use of Chinese manja, glass-coated kite string, plastic or nylon kite string, and Chinese tukkal/sky lanterns in the district.
What Has Been Prohibited?
Along with the Navsari Administration Bans Chinese Manja, it also restricted several activities associated with kite flying and public celebrations, including:
- Use of Chinese manja
- Use of glass-coated kite string
- Use of plastic and nylon kite string
- Use of Chinese tukkal/sky lanterns
- Flying kites on public roads
- Flying kites from dangerous or unsafe rooftops
- Playing loudspeakers at high volume
- Using provocative or objectionable kites
- Running onto roads to collect fallen kites or kite strings
Why Is the Ban Important?
Dangerous kite strings can cause serious injuries to motorcyclists, pedestrians and children and can also become life-threatening for birds and animals. Glass-coated and synthetic strings can remain entangled around trees, electric wires and public infrastructure, creating additional safety risks.
Similarly, sky lanterns can create a fire hazard, particularly during the festive season when residential and commercial areas may be crowded. The restrictions are intended to ensure that citizens can enjoy Diwali and Uttarayan celebrations without putting themselves or others at unnecessary risk.
Citizens Urged to Celebrate Responsibly
The Navsari district administration has appealed to citizens to strictly follow the notification and choose safe, environmentally responsible kite-flying practices.
Citizens are particularly advised to avoid flying kites from unsafe rooftops and never run onto roads to retrieve fallen kites or strings. Parents are also encouraged to ensure that children follow safety precautions while participating in festival activities.
The administration’s message is clear: celebrate the festivals with enthusiasm, but do not compromise the safety of people, birds or animals.
Citizen Appeal: If you notice the use of prohibited kite strings or unsafe activities, citizens should cooperate with the authorities and help maintain a safe environment throughout the festive season.
