In a major relief for residents and tourists battling the scorching summer heat, the Sabarmati Riverfront Development Corporation Limited (SRFDCL) has officially announced an extension of operational hours for the riverfront’s most iconic public attractions. Starting May 25, 2026, visitors can enjoy the breeze along the waterfront late into the night.
The revised schedule applies to the internationally acclaimed Ahmedabad Sabarmati Riverfront – Atal Foot Over Bridge, the vibrant Flower Park, and the newly developed Moon Trail Park. All three premier locations will now remain accessible to the public until midnight (12:00 AM). The strategic decision aims to accommodate the massive influx of night-time visitors looking to escape soaring daytime temperatures during the peak of the school vacation season.
SRFDCL Modifies Ticketing Windows for Visitor Convenience
To ensure a seamless transition and robust crowd management under the new operational framework, the SRFDCL has revised its ticketing protocol.
Final Entry Deadlines and Rules
While the parks and the bridge will stay open until midnight, the entry ticket counters will close strictly one hour prior.
- New Attraction Closing Time: 12:00 AM (Midnight)
- Final Ticket Window Cut-off: 11:00 PM
- Effective Implementation Date: Monday, May 25, 2026
Civic officials stated that closing the ticket counters at 11:00 PM will allow the security personnel and facility managers to regulate the crowds effectively. It guarantees that those who purchase late-evening passes have at least a full hour to explore the illuminated architectural spaces without being rushed out.
Why the Timing Extension is a Win for Ahmedabad Tourism
The summer months in Gujarat frequently witness daylight temperatures crossing the 42°C mark, making outdoor daytime leisure practically impossible for families. Consequently, the evening footfall across Ahmedabad’s public arenas, such as Kankaria Lake and the Sabarmati Promenade historically spikes after sunset.
Escalating Footfall Duning Summer Vacations
The Sabarmati Riverfront has established itself as the crown jewel of Ahmedabad’s modern urban infrastructure. With schools closed for the annual summer break, the daily footfall has consistently broken previous records over the first three weeks of May.
By pushing the closing time back by two hours from the standard 10:00 PM cutoff, the municipal corporation is providing families, youth, and elderly morning walkers an opportunity to experience the scenic night view of the city skyline in a significantly cooler, safer environment.
Navigating the Attractions: What to Expect
The extension bridges three distinct thematic areas on the riverfront, offering varying recreational experiences for the public.
1. The Iconic Atal Foot Over Bridge
Spanning across the Sabarmati River, this footbridge features an eye-catching, kite-themed tensile structure that looks spectacular when fully illuminated at night. It connects the eastern and western promenades, offering panoramic views of the water. The midnight extension is expected to make it a prime hotspot for night photography and casual late-evening strolls.
2. The Riverfront Flower Park
Spanning a massive area along the West Promenade, the Flower Park houses hundreds of species of domestic and exotic flora, dedicated green lawns, and creative topiary structures. While it is famed for hosting the annual Ahmedabad Flower Show in January, it serves as a year-round urban oasis.
3. The Moon Trail Park
The relatively new addition to the riverfront infrastructure, the Moon Trail Park, focuses on atmospheric lighting, artistic seating elements, and pedestrian walkways designed to mimic natural, moonlit pathways. It has quickly grown into a favorite among serene night-time walkers.
Enhanced Security and Civic Preparedness
With thousands of additional late-night visitors expected to flock to the waterfront starting this Monday, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and SRFDCL are deploying extra security parameters.
Additional private security guards and municipal enforcement squads will be stationed at critical junctions, ticketing gates, and all along the lower and upper promenades. Furthermore, the local police department will increase patrolling along both the Riverfront East and Riverfront West roads to maintain law and order and streamline vehicular parking near the access gates.
The civic body has also requested visitors to maintain public cleanliness, dispose of plastic waste in designated bins, and respect the midnight exit calls to help keep the world-class urban space beautiful.
