Emergency Medical Stores Kept Open Across the District
The waves of the nationwide chemist strike rolled heavily across South Gujarat, significantly impacting healthcare retail networks in the Navsari district. Aligning with the national call for a complete shutdown against unregulated e-pharmacies, approximately 600 medical stores across the district locked their shutters, halting routine over-the-counter sales.
However, keeping patient welfare and critical healthcare emergencies in mind, local pharmacy associations have made calculated exceptions to ensure that critical medical services do not collapse.
To prevent a severe healthcare crisis, the Navsari Chemist Association decided not to enforce a blanket closure on facilities tied directly to critical care units. Out of the roughly 600 total medical stores operating across the district, 30 essential pharmacies closely integrated with major hospitals have been kept fully functional to provide emergency services.
A similar strategic blueprint was implemented within the urban limits of Navsari city. Out of the 250 active retail pharmacies operating in the city area, 12 major hospital-linked medical stores were explicitly ordered to remain open throughout the strike period.

Strategic Move to Protect Hospitalized and Surgery Patients
Local union representatives emphasized that the partial opening of hospital pharmacies was a necessary ethical decision. The specialized arrangements were rapidly established to address two critical patient groups:
- Already Admitted Patients: Individuals currently undergoing indoor treatment in ICU or general wards who require round-the-clock medical supplies.
- Surgical Cases: Patients scheduled for critical operations who need immediate access to specialized surgical items, anesthesia kits, and life-saving drugs without delay.
“Our fight is strictly against unfair digital business models and corporate loopholes that threaten public safety – not against innocent citizens in pain,” a representative from the Navsari Chemist Association stated. “By keeping hospital-attached pharmacies open, we have ensured that no emergency surgery or critical treatment is delayed in Navsari due to a lack of medicines.”
While daily walk-in customers looking for general health supplements or regular prescription refills faced inconvenience, the emergency framework successfully managed to buffer the district against a major medical crisis.
