Valsad is set to strengthen its public transport infrastructure with a new State Transport (ST) depot workshop to be constructed at an estimated cost of ₹7.47 crore. The foundation stone for the project was laid by Gujarat Minister Nareshbhai Patel in the presence of Valsad District Panchayat President Hetalben Patel.
The proposed workshop will be developed using modern technology and is expected to improve the maintenance and repair of Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) buses.
Workshop to Cover Around 5,000 Square Metres
Speaking at the ceremony, Minister Nareshbhai Patel, who handles Tribal Development, Khadi, Cottage and Rural Industries, thanked Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister Harshbhai Sanghavi for supporting the development initiative.
He highlighted the importance of the Valsad division, one of the state’s older transport divisions, particularly for people living in tribal areas and students who depend on public transport. The new workshop will cover approximately 5,000 square metres and will be equipped with modern facilities to make bus maintenance and technical operations more efficient.
Important Transport Link Between Gujarat and Maharashtra
Valsad MP Dhavalbhai Patel noted that the Valsad depot is among the state’s oldest and largest depots and plays an important role in connecting Gujarat with Maharashtra.
The new facility is expected to improve bus maintenance, repairs and operational efficiency. Better workshop infrastructure could also help the ST department provide more reliable public transport services to passengers.
Officials Attend Foundation-Laying Ceremony
The ceremony was attended by Valsad MLA Bharatbhai Patel, Dharampur MLA Arvindbhai Patel, District Collector Nitin Sangwan, organisational president Hemant Kansara and officials of the state transport corporation, among others.
The ₹7.47-crore project marks a step towards modernising Valsad’s transport infrastructure and strengthening the maintenance facilities supporting public bus services.
