Bhubaneswar, October 26, 2026: The Odisha government has imposed restrictions on sea fishing and tourist visits to hills, waterfalls, dams and other scenic destinations in six districts as Cyclone Arnab approaches the eastern coast. The precautionary measures aim to protect residents and visitors ahead of the expected impact of the storm.
Six Districts Under Cyclone Alert
The restrictions apply to six vulnerable districts in southern Odisha:
- Ganjam
- Gajapati
- Rayagada
- Malkangiri
- Koraput
- Nabarangpur
Fishing activities in the sea have been prohibited, while tourist entry to hills, waterfalls, dams and other scenic locations in these districts has been restricted.
Schools and Colleges to Remain Closed
As a precaution against adverse weather conditions, schools, colleges and Anganwadi centres in the six districts are scheduled to remain closed on October 28 and 29, 2026. The state government has also cancelled leave for government employees in the affected districts and established control rooms to coordinate emergency response and relief operations.
Rescue Teams and Emergency Preparations
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has deputed eight ministers to monitor cyclone preparedness at different locations. Teams from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF), fire services and police have been positioned in vulnerable areas.
Authorities are also preparing cyclone shelters and taking precautionary steps to protect people living in low-lying areas.
Cyclone Arnab Expected to Approach Andhra Pradesh Coast
According to the India Meteorological Department’s forecast reported on October 26, Cyclone Arnab was expected to intensify further over the west-central Bay of Bengal before approaching the Andhra Pradesh coast.
Although the anticipated landfall was along the neighbouring Andhra Pradesh coast, officials warned that the weather system could also affect parts of Odisha after moving inland.
Advisory for Farmers
The Odisha Agriculture Department has advised farmers to harvest and safely store crops that are approximately 80–85% mature. Dedicated agricultural helplines have also been arranged to assist farmers during the adverse weather conditions.
Residents in vulnerable areas should follow official advisories, avoid restricted locations and monitor updates from the India Meteorological Department and local administration.
This report reflects information available on October 26, 2026. Cyclone forecasts and local restrictions may change as weather conditions develop.
