Heavy rainfall continued across Valsad district late at night and into the early morning, leading to widespread waterlogging in Valsad city, Vapi, Umargam, Pardi and several surrounding areas. The intense downpour submerged roads, underpasses and residential localities, disrupting traffic and affecting thousands of commuters.
The rainfall has once again raised questions over the effectiveness of pre-monsoon preparations carried out by local civic authorities.
Chipwad Underpass Submerged, Vehicles Stranded
One of the worst-hit locations was the Chipwad Railway Underpass, which connects Valsad city with nearly 40 surrounding villages.
Following continuous rainfall:
- The underpass was completely waterlogged.
- Several cars and two-wheelers broke down after entering the flooded stretch.
- Water reached knee level, leaving commuters stranded.
- Office-goers and school students faced major inconvenience.
- Traffic congestion continued for several hours.
Police personnel reached the spot and helped remove stranded vehicles while regulating traffic.

Almost every taluka in Valsad district received significant rainfall.

Flooded roads slowed traffic movement, while commuters experienced long delays throughout the morning.
Umargam Residential Areas Flooded
Umargam also witnessed heavy rainfall, with nearly 2 inches of rain within two hours.
Waterlogging was reported in:
- Adarsh Nagar Society
- Radhika Residency
- Umargam Station Road
Residents faced difficulties moving in and out of residential colonies as rainwater entered several internal roads.
Questions Raised Over Pre-Monsoon Preparations
With several underpasses and roads flooding after the first major spell of rain, residents questioned the effectiveness of drainage cleaning and desilting work undertaken before the monsoon. Many commuters expressed concern over recurring flooding every year despite claims of extensive pre-monsoon preparedness.
Daman Also Receives Heavy Rain
Neighbouring Daman also experienced widespread rainfall.
According to available rainfall data:
- Daman recorded 6.62 inches of rainfall during the last 24 hours.
- Waterlogging was reported on the main road near Kachigam Somnath Vidyut Bhavan.
- Several roads witnessed slow-moving traffic due to accumulated rainwater.
Residents in low-lying areas experienced inconvenience as continuous rainfall disrupted normal movement.
Authorities Continue Monitoring Situation
Local authorities are monitoring the rainfall situation across South Gujarat as more showers are expected over the next few days. Citizens have been advised to avoid flooded roads and underpasses, drive cautiously during heavy rain and follow weather advisories issued by the administration.
