The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued Red, Orange and Yellow rain alerts for several districts across Gujarat, warning of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall between July 1 and July 6 as the southwest monsoon becomes more active over the state.
The weather department has advised residents in vulnerable districts to remain alert, avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain spells, and follow updates issued by local authorities.
Red Alert Issued for South Gujarat Districts
The highest Red Alert has been issued for parts of South Gujarat, where extremely heavy rainfall is expected during the forecast period.
Districts under Red Alert include:
- Valsad
- Navsari
- Dang
- Tapi
These districts may witness intense rainfall that could lead to:
- Urban flooding
- Waterlogging
- Traffic disruptions
- Overflowing rivers and streams
- Localized landslides in hilly regions
Orange Alert for Several Districts
An Orange Alert has also been issued for districts likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall.
These include:
- Surat
- Bharuch
- Narmada
- Chhota Udepur
- Panchmahal
- Dahod
- Mahisagar
Residents have been advised to stay cautious as isolated areas may experience thunderstorms, strong winds and heavy rain.
Yellow Alert Covers Large Parts of Gujarat
Several districts remain under a Yellow Alert, indicating the possibility of moderate to heavy rainfall.
Weather conditions are expected to remain favourable for widespread showers across:
- Central Gujarat
- North Gujarat
- Saurashtra
- Parts of Kutch
Heavy Rain Likely Across South Gujarat
According to IMD, South Gujarat is expected to receive the highest rainfall during this spell.
Cities including:
- Surat
- Valsad
- Navsari
- Vapi
- Bardoli
- Vyara
may continue receiving frequent heavy showers over the next few days.
Many low-lying areas could experience temporary waterlogging during periods of intense rainfall.
Fishermen Advised Not to Venture Into Sea
The weather department has also advised fishermen along the Gujarat coast not to venture into the Arabian Sea due to:
- Strong winds
- Rough sea conditions
- High waves
Those already at sea have been advised to return to the coast immediately.
Administration on Alert
District administrations and disaster response teams have been placed on alert to handle any emergency arising from heavy rainfall.
Authorities are monitoring:
- River water levels
- Dam releases
- Flood-prone locations
- Urban drainage systems
Citizens have been urged to avoid crossing flooded roads, stay away from rivers during heavy rain and follow official advisories.
Monsoon Expected to Remain Active
