Western Railway Announces Special Trains for Passenger Relief
After the massive crowd chaos witnessed at Udhna Railway Station on April 19, Western Railway has moved into action mode and announced major relief measures for passengers, especially migrant workers traveling toward Uttar Pradesh and Bihar during the summer vacation rush.
The incident at Udhna station created serious concern after the uncontrolled crowd of laborers and passengers led to management difficulties and public inconvenience. Following the situation, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) held an important meeting with Western Railway officials and strongly presented the problems faced by workers and travelers.
As a result, Western Railway’s General Manager assured that more Holiday Special trains would be introduced and better arrangements would be made to reduce crowd pressure and passenger difficulties.
In a major decision, Western Railway has now announced four “Train on Demand” special unreserved trains, including the highly important Udhna–Madhubani weekly special train, which is expected to provide major relief for passengers heading to UP and Bihar.
SGCCI Raises Workers Problems After Udhna Crowd Incident
The crowd situation at Udhna Railway Station on April 19 highlighted the serious travel difficulties faced by migrant workers during peak holiday seasons.
Thousands of laborers, especially those returning to their hometowns in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar, faced overcrowding, lack of train availability, and severe inconvenience.
Taking the issue seriously, the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry met Western Railway authorities and demanded immediate solutions.
The Chamber requested:
- More Holiday Special trains during peak travel periods
- Train departures not only from Udhna but also from Surat, Bhestan, and Chalthan stations
- Better crowd management planning during vacation and festival seasons
- Additional arrangements for migrant workers and general passengers
The goal was to reduce pressure on Udhna station and improve passenger convenience across South Gujarat.
Western Railway Assures More Holiday Special Trains
Following the meeting, the General Manager of Western Railway assured that passenger convenience would be given priority and necessary action would be taken immediately.
Officials stated that more Holiday Special trains would be introduced to manage the increased summer vacation rush and reduce overcrowding at major stations. This assurance has brought relief to passengers who were struggling to get confirmed tickets or even general coach access due to heavy crowd pressure.
Railway authorities also indicated that station-level arrangements would be improved to prevent similar incidents in the future. This move is being seen as a direct response to the strong representation made by business leaders and public concerns raised after the April 19 crowd crisis.
Udhna–Madhubani Weekly Unreserved Special Train Announced
One of the biggest announcements made by Western Railway is the launch of the weekly Udhna (Surat) to Madhubani “Train on Demand” Special Train. This train will run completely with unreserved general coaches, making it highly beneficial for migrant workers and passengers traveling to Bihar and Uttar Pradesh.
Since many workers from Surat and South Gujarat belong to the UP-Bihar regions, this special train is expected to reduce pressure on existing routes and improve travel convenience significantly. Passengers often face major difficulty during summer vacations due to sudden demand spikes, and unreserved special trains help provide quick and affordable travel options.
The Udhna–Madhubani special is expected to be one of the most important relief measures this season.
Three More Special Trains Between Valsad, Durgapur and Sabarmati
Apart from the Udhna – Madhubani route, Western Railway has also announced three additional special fare trains between:
- Valsad – Durgapur
- Udhna – Durgapur
- Sabarmati – Durgapur
These trains will operate during the summer vacation period to handle the extra passenger load. Railway officials stated that these services are designed to improve connectivity and provide smoother travel options for passengers traveling across high-demand routes.
The “Train on Demand” model allows railways to respond quickly to real passenger demand rather than fixed scheduling, making it more effective during seasonal rush periods.
Relief for Migrant Workers and Daily Travelers
For thousands of migrant workers living in Surat and nearby industrial areas, train travel remains the most affordable and practical option for returning home.
During summer vacations and festive seasons, the pressure on railway stations like Udhna becomes extremely high due to heavy migration flow. The latest railway decision is expected to bring major relief not only for labourers but also for regular passengers who were facing severe crowding and uncertainty.
Business leaders and citizens have welcomed the decision and hope that such planning becomes a regular part of railway operations during every peak season.

Big Changes Expected in South Gujarat Railway Management
The April 19 Udhna crowd incident has become a strong reminder that railway infrastructure and planning must evolve with growing passenger demand. The demand to expand train operations from Surat, Bhestan, and Chalthan stations could lead to long-term improvements in South Gujarat’s railway network.
With Western Railway now in action mode, passengers are expecting smoother travel, better crowd control, and more special train services in the coming months.
The launch of four special “Train on Demand” trains marks the beginning of what could be a major shift in railway management for Surat and surrounding regions—bringing much-needed comfort and convenience to thousands of travelers.
