Ahmedabad: Gujarat is set to witness another spell of intense monsoon activity, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecasting in Gujarat heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places between September 12 and 15, 2026.
The latest IMD warning indicates that rainfall activity is expected to increase from September 12, with several districts of South Gujarat, including Surat, Bharuch, Narmada, Tapi, Dang, Navsari and Valsad, coming under weather alerts.
Gujarat Heavy to Very Heavy Rain Increase From September 12
According to the IMD’s September 10 bulletin, a low-pressure area has formed over the north Bay of Bengal and adjoining areas, while an upper-air cyclonic circulation persists over Saurashtra and neighbouring regions.
These weather systems are expected to influence rainfall across Gujarat over the coming days. The IMD has forecast light to moderate rain or thundershowers at a few places on September 10 and 11, followed by an increase in rainfall activity from September 12.
September 12: Yellow Alert for South Gujarat
On September 12, heavy rainfall at isolated places is very likely across several districts of South Gujarat.
The areas under the yellow alert include:
- Vadodara
- Chhota Udepur
- Narmada
- Bharuch
- Surat
- Tapi
- Dang
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Daman
- Dadra and Nagar Haveli
This makes the September 12 forecast particularly important for Surat and other South Gujarat districts.
September 13: Orange Alert in Several South Gujarat Areas
The weather situation is expected to become more intense on September 13.
The IMD has issued an orange alert for very heavy rainfall in:
- Dang
- Navsari
- Valsad
- Daman
- Dadra and Nagar Haveli
At the same time, a yellow alert has been issued for Surat, Tapi, Bharuch, Narmada, Vadodara, Chhota Udepur and several other Gujarat and Saurashtra districts.
The IMD has also issued a thunderstorm yellow alert across all districts of Gujarat for September 13.
September 14: Rain Alert Continues in Gujarat
On September 14, very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely in Dang, Navsari, Valsad, Daman, Dadra and Nagar Haveli, where an orange alert has been issued. Meanwhile, Surat, Tapi, Bharuch, Narmada, Vadodara and several Saurashtra districts remain under a yellow alert.
September 15: Rain Shifts Towards Saurashtra
The rain activity is expected to continue into September 15, particularly across parts of Saurashtra. The IMD has forecast heavy rainfall at isolated places in Porbandar, Junagadh, Devbhumi Dwarka, Gir Somnath and Diu, with a yellow alert for these areas.
Thunderstorms and Strong Winds Also Expected
Along with rainfall, the IMD has warned of thunderstorms, lightning and surface winds of around 30–40 kmph at isolated or scattered places during the period. Residents in affected districts are advised to follow official weather updates, particularly when travelling during periods of thunderstorms and heavy rainfall.
What About Surat?
Surat is among the districts specifically covered by the IMD’s yellow alerts on September 12, 13 and 14. For Surat residents, the upcoming weather system could mean periods of heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong surface winds. The situation is particularly relevant for commuters, motorists and residents in areas vulnerable to waterlogging.
However, the IMD’s district-level warning describes heavy rainfall at isolated places, so rainfall intensity can vary significantly between different parts of the city and district.
