Ahmedabad Traffic Diversion: Commuters travelling through Chandlodiya and nearby areas will face a major traffic diversion for the next four months as construction work on the Sabarmati–Sarkhej railway route is set to affect vehicle movement.
According to a traffic notification issued by the Ahmedabad City Traffic Police, the approximately 100-metre road beneath Railway Bridge No. 5 in the Chandlodiya area will remain closed to all types of vehicular traffic during the construction period.
The restriction will remain in force 24 hours a day for around four months.
Why Is the Chandlodiya Road Being Closed?
The construction work is being carried out by the Western Railway, Ahmedabad Division, as part of railway infrastructure development along the Sabarmati–Sarkhej railway route. A new railway bridge is being constructed alongside the existing bridge in the Chandlodiya area to facilitate the development of a new railway line.
To safely carry out the construction work, the road passing below Railway Bridge No. 5 will be closed temporarily.
Traffic to Be Diverted Through Railway Bridge No. 4
With the road below Bridge No. 5 closed, motorists will be diverted through the nearby Chandlodiya Railway Bridge No. 4.
Traffic From Chandlodiya
Vehicles travelling from Chandlodiya towards:
- New Ranip
- Chenpur
- Sabarmati
- Chandkheda
will be able to use Railway Bridge No. 4 and proceed towards their respective destinations through alternative routes.
Traffic From New Ranip, Chenpur and Chandkheda
Vehicles coming from New Ranip, Chenpur, Sabarmati and Chandkheda towards Chandlodiya will also be required to use Bridge No. 4. The traffic police have advised motorists to follow the designated diversion routes and cooperate with traffic personnel during the construction period.
Road Closure to Remain in Force 24 Hours
The notification states that the traffic restriction will remain operational around the clock for approximately four months. This means commuters may experience changes in travel time not only during peak hours but throughout the day.
Motorists travelling through Chandlodiya are therefore advised to plan their journeys accordingly and allow additional travel time.
Ahmedabad Traffic Police Issue Public Advisory
The Ahmedabad City Traffic Police have issued the notification to inform residents and commuters about the temporary traffic arrangement. The authorities have requested citizens to follow the diversion and avoid attempting to use the closed road beneath Bridge No. 5. The traffic arrangement has been issued under directions from the Police Commissioner, Ahmedabad City.
Construction Expected to Improve Railway Infrastructure
The ongoing work forms part of railway infrastructure development along the Sabarmati–Sarkhej route. Although the temporary road closure may cause inconvenience to local residents and daily commuters, the construction is aimed at facilitating the development of railway infrastructure in the Chandlodiya area.
