This critical temporary bottleneck is required to advance the infrastructure development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.
Ahmedabad Kalupur Bridge Closure: The Joint Commissioner of Police (Traffic), Ahmedabad City, has issued a comprehensive traffic advisory implementing a string of night-time closures on the crucial Kalupur Bridge. This critical temporary bottleneck is required to advance the infrastructure development of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad High-Speed Rail (MAHSR) Corridor.
Infrastructure engineering firm Dineshchandra R. Agrawal Infracon Pvt. Ltd. is actively piloting track beds and executing segment launches across the Sabarmati to Watva stretch. The upcoming construction phase involves lifting and securing massive heavy-duty concrete viaduct segments directly above the existing overbridge alignment.
Operational Timeline and Affected Infrastructure
To minimize daytime gridlocks across Central Ahmedabad’s core trade districts, the local administration has restricted heavy lifting operations strictly to a nocturnal schedule.
- Closure Window: Friday, May 22, 2026, through Monday, May 25, 2026.
- Active Restriction Hours: Nightly from 00:00 AM to 06:00 AM (Midnight to Dawn).
- Impacted Work Zone: A critical 500-meter stretch spanning from the foot of the Kalupur Circle Overbridge up to the small interior roundabout on the bridge structure will remain completely closed to all vehicular traffic during these active construction hours.
Detailed Official Traffic Diversions and Alternative Routes
The Traffic Police Department has mapped out four distinct regional bypass corridors to accommodate commuters traveling from eastern residential zones and western commercial hubs.
1. From Naroda Road and Saraspur heading toward Kalupur Circle
Commuters arriving from these sectors will be barred from taking the direct overbridge route.
- The Detour: Vehicles must divert from the Saraspur Circle proceed along Nutan Mill Road reach the Vora Na Roja Crossroads execute a left turn onto the Dr. B.R. Ambedkar Flyover (Chamunda Bridge) drive down the Asarwa Civil Hospital Road transition via Rachna School Road cross the Girdharnagar Crossroads scale the Babu Jagjivanram Bridge proceed via Idgah Road to safely reach Kalupur Circle.
2. From Rakhial and Gomtipur heading toward Kalupur Circle
Vehicles entering from the city’s southeastern industrial zones must navigate around the central structural line.
- The Detour: Divert from Saraspur Circle take Gurudwara Road move down Chartoda Kabristan Road turn left at the Rakhial Crossroads turn right at the Murga Circle Crossroads track alongside the Apparel Park Metro Station continue via Anupam Cinema Road cross the Anupam Bridge access Kankaria Road merge via Sarangpur Circle to approach Kalupur Circle.

Important Exceptions to the Diversion Scheme
To prevent total gridlock in surrounding urban corridors, the traffic notification highlights a few exemptions for two-way flow over specific segments of the bridge structure.
Official Traffic Exemption Note: Vehicles approaching directly from the Naroda G.C.S. Hospital Road heading toward Saraspur or Gomtipur are permitted to use their designated lanes on the Kalupur Bridge. Similarly, counter-flow traffic from Saraspur and Gomtipur moving cleanly onto Naroda Road will be allowed to use un-impacted open segments of the Kalupur Overbridge.
The local police administration and NHSRCL have strongly advised overnight travelers, public transit operators, and logistics vehicles to map out their journeys ahead of time to avoid facing structural bottlenecks.
