Modern Airport Spread Across a Massive Area
Daman is set to achieve a major milestone in aviation and infrastructure development as the newly constructed airport, built at a cost of ₹97 crore, is now fully prepared for operations. The ultra-modern airport is expected to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the first week of June.
Preparations for the Prime Minister’s proposed visit are currently underway at full speed, with local administration and BJP leaders actively reviewing arrangements and security measures ahead of the grand inauguration ceremony. The airport project is being seen as a major boost for tourism, business connectivity, and economic growth in the Union Territory of Daman.
Airport Built Over 1.01 Lakh Square Metres
The newly developed Daman Airport has been constructed over a vast area of approximately 1.01 lakh square metres. The project has been designed with modern aviation infrastructure and passenger convenience in mind. Officials stated that the airport has been developed to support future expansion and rising passenger demand from the region.
Advanced Passenger Terminal Ready
A state-of-the-art passenger terminal building covering around 5,460 square metres has been constructed as part of the airport project.
The terminal includes several modern facilities for travelers, including:
- Waiting room capacity for 180 passengers
- Dedicated VVIP lounge for 16 guests
- 12 check-in counters with future expansion capacity up to 16 counters
- Modern passenger handling systems
- Security and operational infrastructure
The terminal has been designed to offer a smooth and comfortable travel experience for passengers flying from Daman.
Parking and Aircraft Facilities Strengthened
Parking Space for Vehicles and Commercial Aircraft
To improve passenger convenience, the airport also features secure parking facilities for 57 vehicles. In addition, a large apron area has been developed where two A-320 size commercial aircraft can be parked simultaneously. This infrastructure is expected to support regular commercial airline operations in the near future.
Officials believe the airport’s operational readiness will significantly improve regional air connectivity.
Commercial Flights to Delhi to Begin Soon
Mumbai and Ahmedabad Routes Also Planned
According to officials, commercial flight services between Daman and Delhi are expected to begin initially after the airport becomes operational. Authorities also revealed that direct air connectivity to Mumbai and Ahmedabad is likely to be introduced shortly afterwards. These routes are expected to provide major convenience to business travellers, tourists, and residents of the region.
The launch of commercial aviation services is expected to reduce travel time significantly and improve accessibility to Daman from major Indian cities.
BJP Leaders Conduct On-Site Inspection
Ahead of the inauguration ceremony, BJP office bearers and local leaders visited the airport premises and conducted a detailed inspection of the facilities. During the visit, leaders reviewed terminal arrangements, operational readiness, passenger amenities, and infrastructure quality. Preparations related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s proposed visit were also discussed during the inspection.
Local BJP leaders described the airport project as a historic achievement for Daman and stated that it would accelerate tourism and investment opportunities in the region.
Major Boost for Tourism and Economic Growth
Improved Connectivity Expected to Benefit Daman
Daman is already known as a popular tourist destination due to its beaches, Portuguese heritage, and coastal attractions. Improved air connectivity is expected to further strengthen tourism activities and attract more domestic visitors. Business sectors including hospitality, transport, real estate, and local commerce are also expected to benefit from the airport project.
Experts believe direct connectivity with metro cities such as Delhi, Mumbai, and Ahmedabad will open new opportunities for investment and regional development.
Focus on Infrastructure Development
The development of the airport reflects the government’s continued emphasis on strengthening regional infrastructure and expanding aviation connectivity under India’s broader civil aviation growth strategy. In recent years, several smaller cities and regions across India have witnessed rapid airport development aimed at improving accessibility and boosting economic activity.
The Daman Airport project is now being viewed as another important addition to western India’s growing aviation network.
Conclusion
With modern facilities, commercial flight readiness, and proposed direct connectivity to major Indian cities, Daman’s newly built ₹97 crore airport is set to become a major infrastructure landmark for the region. The expected inauguration by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in June has further increased excitement among residents and political leaders.
As preparations continue at full pace, Daman now awaits the official launch of an airport project that promises to transform travel, tourism, and economic opportunities for the Union Territory.
