Vadodara: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) has started planning four new flyovers and bridges at some of the city’s major traffic-prone junctions as part of efforts to reduce congestion and improve traffic movement.
The proposed projects are planned at Alkapuri, Sussen Circle, Soma Talav Circle and Gotri Yash Complex Circle. VMC has begun preparing preliminary designs and cost estimates for the projects.
Four Key Locations Identified
The proposed infrastructure projects are aimed at addressing traffic congestion at junctions where vehicle movement has increased significantly.
The four locations identified by VMC are:
- Alkapuri
- Sussen Circle
- Soma Talav Circle
- Gotri Yash Complex Circle
These locations experience heavy traffic, particularly during peak hours, making them important points for improving the city’s road network.
Alkapuri Flyover to Address Traffic and Waterlogging
The proposed bridge at Alkapuri is expected to address more than just traffic congestion. The area around the railway station and Circuit House frequently experiences traffic pressure. The project is also expected to help address the recurring waterlogging problem at Alkapuri Garnala during the monsoon season.
VMC has started the process of obtaining the necessary permission from the Railway Department for the proposed project, as the location is connected to railway infrastructure.
Soma Talav Circle Project to Improve Highway Connectivity
Another proposed flyover is planned at Soma Talav Circle, an important entry point for vehicles coming into Vadodara from the highway.
The project is intended to reduce congestion and improve the movement of vehicles approaching the city from the highway side. With traffic volumes increasing around the junction, the proposed bridge could provide an alternative elevated route for through traffic and reduce pressure on the existing intersection.
Flyovers Proposed at Sussen and Gotri
VMC is also planning new structures at Sussen Circle and Gotri Yash Complex Circle. Both locations have experienced increased traffic movement in recent years, and the civic body is considering flyover infrastructure as part of its broader strategy to improve traffic flow across Vadodara. The projects are currently in the planning and preliminary design stage, with VMC preparing designs and initial cost estimates before the proposals move towards further approvals and implementation.
Six Other Bridge Projects Already Underway
The four new proposals come at a time when work on six other bridge projects is already underway in Vadodara. According to the latest information, the bridge project on Sama-Savli Road is expected to be completed by January 2027.
The remaining five ongoing bridge projects are expected to be completed by December 2027. VMC’s official Bridge Cell has also identified several bridge, flyover, road-widening and underpass projects as part of its longer-term planning to improve traffic movement and connectivity in the city.
Vadodara Expands Flyover Network
The latest proposals reflect Vadodara’s wider focus on improving urban mobility as traffic volumes continue to rise. The civic body is looking to expand the city’s network of flyovers and bridges to reduce pressure on busy roads and improve connectivity between major residential, commercial and highway corridors. If the four proposed projects receive the required approvals and move into construction, they could eventually provide smoother traffic movement at some of Vadodara’s busiest junctions.
For now, however, the projects remain at the planning stage, and details such as final designs, project costs, construction timelines and execution agencies are expected to be determined as the proposals progress.
