Thousands of sarees and gray fabric consignments meticulously prepared for the upcoming wedding and festive seasons were ruined in the mud and water. According to primary estimates, this natural calamity has caused a staggering loss of over Rs 200 crore to the textile sector.

With floodwaters finally receding, Surat traders are now engaged in monumental efforts to salvage whatever is left. The soaked sarees and fabrics are being rushed to processing mills and dyeing houses for immediate drying to minimize further damage.
