AHMEDABAD: In connection with the grand Tiranga Yatra rescheduled for August 12, 2026, the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and city traffic authorities have released a comprehensive transit management plan. The patriotic procession, which was moved by a day due to a change in the Deputy Chief Minister’s schedule, will witness massive public participation and high-profile leadership presence.
To prevent gridlocks and ensure public safety along the core event path, authorities have announced strategic road closures, public transport modifications, and dedicated alternative routes for daily commuters.
Event Schedule & Core Route for Tiranga Yatra
- Date: August 12, 2026
- Timing: Commencing at 5:00 PM
- Flag-off Ceremony: Gujarat Deputy Chief Minister and Home Minister Harsh Sanghavi will officially launch the procession.
- Procession Corridor: The yatra will start from Raipur Darwaja and wind its way toward Sarangpur Crossroads through the historic Khadia sector.
Road Closures & Restricted Zones
Because the Raipur Darwaja to Sarangpur stretch will serve as the exclusive pathway for the marchers and security escorts, heavy vehicular movement will be completely barred.
- Closed Corridor: The main thoroughfare connecting Raipur Darwaja, Raipur Crossroads, and Sarangpur Crossroads will be heavily cordoned off starting mid-afternoon on August 12.
- Impacted Zones: Inner-market entry points linking local commercial zones in Khadia to the central axis will face stringent restrictions.
Ahmedabad BRTS Modifications
The Bus Rapid Transit System (BRTS) lanes operating near the core event zones will undergo temporary adjustments to accommodate security protocols and pedestrian safety:
- Service Alterations: BRTS buses passing through or intersecting the Raipur-Sarangpur route will experience short-corridoring, brief service holds, or temporary route truncations.
- Passenger Advisory: Commuters relying on public transit through central and eastern Ahmedabad during the evening peak hours are advised to check real-time schedule updates or opt for alternative transit modes.
Alternative Routes and Traffic Diversions
To bypass the affected segments seamlessly, the traffic department has laid out suggested alternative pathways for private vehicles, two-wheelers, and commercial transport:
| Direction / Origin | Recommended Alternative Routes |
| North-South Commuters (Heading towards Kalupur / Sarangpur periphery) | Use Dariyapur-Prem Darwaja or ring outward via the Subhash Bridge / Sardar Patel Ring Road corridors depending on destination. |
| East-West Transit | Utilize the Astu Crossing / Delhi Darwaja pathways or inner ring roads to bypass central commercial bottlenecks near Khadia. |
| Local Commercial Traffic | Heavy transport vehicles are strictly barred from entering the walled city zones during afternoon and evening hours; drivers must utilize outer bypasses. |
Additional Highlights: Gen Z Reel Contest
Adding a vibrant community element to the day, the AMC has rolled out a special Tiranga Yatra Reel Contest to encourage youth engagement:
- Prizes: Cash rewards of ₹31,000 (1st), ₹21,000 (2nd), and ₹11,000 (3rd) await creators.
- Participation: Attend the yatra on August 12, capture a creative reel, post it publicly on Instagram using
#AmdavadTirangaYatra2026and#AMC, and tag@amdavadamcbefore the August 16 deadline.
Citizens, motorists, and office-goers are strongly advised to plan their evening commutes ahead of time, allocate extra travel windows, and follow instructions issued by traffic personnel deployed across the city.
