City Receives 3.38 Inches Average Rainfall in 12 Hours
Ahmedabad Rainfall News: Heavy rain lashed Ahmedabad on Monday, September 14, bringing several parts of the city to a standstill. According to Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) rainfall data, the city recorded an average of 3.38 inches of rain between 6 AM and 6 PM.
The heaviest rainfall during the 12-hour period was recorded in Vatva, which received 5.63 inches. Sarkhej Urban Health Centre followed closely with 5.61 inches, while Bopal recorded 5.33 inches and Bakrol received 5.16 inches.
The intense spell resulted in widespread waterlogging, traffic disruption and difficulties for commuters across several parts of Ahmedabad.
Vatva Records Highest Ahmedabad Rainfall
Vatva emerged as the wettest location in Ahmedabad during the 12-hour period, recording 5.63 inches of rainfall.

- Maktampura: 4.98 inches
- Jodhpur Zonal Office: 4.84 inches

- Sarkhej: 4.41 inches
- Indrapuri: 4.39 inches
- Ramol: 4.25 inches
- Vasna: 4.04 inches
The rainfall figures were recorded between 6 AM and 6 PM on September 14, according to AMC data.
Ahmedabad Zone-Wise Rainfall
The South-West zone recorded the highest average rainfall among Ahmedabad’s zones.

The figures show a significant variation in rainfall intensity across different parts of the city.
Waterlogging Reported Across Ahmedabad
The heavy downpour caused waterlogging in several areas, including Bopal, Shela, Ambli, Sindhu Bhavan Road, Vastrapur, Prahladnagar, Jodhpur, Maninagar, Hatkeshwar, Khokhra and Nikol.
Several major roads were inundated, affecting traffic movement. In some areas, water also entered residential societies and commercial establishments. Motorists faced difficulties crossing flooded stretches, with some vehicles reportedly breaking down in deep water.
Traffic Disrupted in Several Areas
Hatkeshwar Circle witnessed severe waterlogging, with vehicles surrounded by accumulated rainwater. Similar conditions were reported in Khokhra, Manekbagh and Vastrapur. Waterlogging also made it difficult for pedestrians to move through several locations, while potholes and uneven road surfaces became harder to identify under the accumulated water.
School Bus and Ambulance Affected
The heavy rain also affected emergency and school transportation. In Shela, a school bus carrying primary school students reportedly became stuck in accumulated water. The children were safely rescued and arrangements were made to take them home in another bus. An ambulance was also reportedly unable to cross the waterlogged Manipur underpass near Ghuma.
Fallen Trees and Other Incidents
The heavy rainfall was accompanied by reports of fallen trees in Ambawadi and Navrangpura. Reports of a fire involving electrical distribution equipment also emerged from Jamalpur and Isanpur. The widespread waterlogging once again brought attention to drainage and stormwater management in several parts of Ahmedabad.
Vasna Barrage Gates Opened
Amid the heavy rainfall, three gates of Vasna Barrage were opened by one foot to regulate the water level in the Sabarmati River. The river level was being maintained at around 129 feet, according to the report.
AMC Reviews Rain Situation
Ahmedabad Mayor Hitesh Barot and other civic representatives visited the Paldi command and control room to review the situation. AMC teams were deployed in affected areas to clear catch pits and help speed up the drainage of accumulated rainwater. The District Education Officer also advised schools to assess local conditions before deciding whether a holiday was necessary.
IMD Warns of More Rain in Gujarat
The heavy Ahmedabad rainfall came amid an active monsoon spell across Gujarat. The India Meteorological Department’s September 15 state forecast reported vigorous monsoon conditions over Gujarat and Saurashtra-Kutch, with heavy rainfall recorded at isolated locations in Ahmedabad and several other districts.
Residents in Ahmedabad and other parts of Gujarat should remain alert to waterlogging, traffic disruptions and rapidly changing weather conditions as the rain spell continues.
