Banaskantha, October 28, 2026: Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to lay the foundation stones for two new Bio-CNG plants of Banas Dairy in Gujarat on October 30, 2026. The plants will be located in Tharad and Radhanpur, with the programme to be held from Bhildi in Banaskantha district.
The two facilities will have a combined capacity to process 175 metric tonnes of cattle dung daily, supporting clean energy production, organic fertiliser manufacturing and additional income opportunities for livestock farmers.
Two Plants to Process 175 Tonnes of Cattle Dung Daily
The proposed Bio-CNG plants will have the following capacities:
- Tharad plant: 75 metric tonnes of cattle dung per day.
- Radhanpur plant: 100 metric tonnes of cattle dung per day.
- Combined capacity: 175 metric tonnes per day.
Once operational, the plants will expand Banas Dairy’s existing Bio-CNG network in North Gujarat and strengthen its efforts to convert livestock waste into useful energy and agricultural products.
How Banas Dairy’s Bio-CNG Model Works
Under the Banas Dairy model, cattle dung is procured from livestock farmers and processed to produce Bio-CNG, a renewable fuel that can be used in vehicles. The remaining material is converted into solid and liquid organic fertilisers marketed under the brand name Bhumi Amrut.
This approach helps create an additional revenue stream for livestock farmers while making productive use of agricultural and animal waste. Banas Dairy currently sells around 6,100 kilograms of Bio-CNG daily, according to the report.
Four Existing Plants Already Operating
Banas Dairy currently operates four Bio-CNG plants in the Banaskantha region. These facilities are located in Dama village of Deesa taluka, Agthala, Bhukhla and Vinchhivadi. Together, the four plants process approximately 340 metric tonnes of cattle dung per day. Their combined output includes Bio-CNG and organic fertilisers.
With the addition of the proposed Tharad and Radhanpur plants, Banas Dairy’s network will expand to six facilities, with total cattle-dung processing capacity expected to reach 515 metric tonnes per day once all six plants are operational.
Focus on Clean Energy and Farmers’ Income
The Bio-CNG initiative aims to support renewable energy production while reducing the environmental impact of unmanaged cattle dung. It also connects dairy farming with the production of fuel and organic fertilisers, creating opportunities to generate value from livestock waste.
The new plants are expected to strengthen this model in North Gujarat and further integrate dairy cooperatives, livestock farmers and clean-energy production. The foundation-laying ceremony is scheduled for October 30, 2026. The proposed plants will add to Banas Dairy’s existing infrastructure once construction is completed and operations begin.
