Continuous heavy rainfall in Navsari district has prompted the district administration to temporarily close 34 roads for vehicular movement due to waterlogging, overflowing causeways, flooded railway underpasses, and damaged road infrastructure.
The precautionary measure has been taken to ensure public safety as several roads across the district have become unsafe for travel following persistent monsoon showers.
34 Roads Closed Across Five Talukas
According to the district administration, roads have been closed in the following talukas:
- Navsari: 8 roads
- Jalalpore: 3 roads
- Gandevi: 7 roads
- Chikhli: 9 roads
- Vansda: 7 roads
The closures include major district roads, panchayat roads, and several important rural routes connecting villages.
Reasons Behind the Road Closures
Officials stated that most roads have been shut due to overtopping on causeways (OT), making them unsafe for vehicular movement.
Other reasons include:
- Water flowing over diversions (DV)
- Flooded railway underpasses (UPF)
- Road damage caused by heavy rainfall (AW)
- Lack of alternate routes (NOR)
The administration said that continuous monitoring of the situation is underway, and roads will only be reopened after safety inspections once rainfall decreases.
Administration Issues Public Advisory
The Navsari district administration has appealed to residents to:
- Avoid travelling on closed roads.
- Follow barricades and warning signs.
- Check road conditions before planning travel.
- Stay away from flooded causeways and railway underpasses.
- Avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rainfall.
Authorities have instructed all concerned departments to remain on alert and continue monitoring water levels across vulnerable locations.
Monsoon Continues to Impact South Gujarat
Heavy rainfall has been affecting several parts of South Gujarat over the past few days, leading to waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and precautionary closures in multiple districts. Navsari remains one of the worst-affected districts, with continuous rainfall impacting transportation and daily life.
The administration has assured that restoration work will begin immediately after weather conditions improve and road safety assessments are completed.
