Surat, Gujarat: In a major development for railway passengers in South Gujarat, Utran Railway Station is being developed as an additional option for operating long-distance trains ahead of the Diwali and Chhath Puja 2026 festive rush. Western Railway’s Vadodara Division is expanding the station’s infrastructure to make it a satellite railway station for Surat.
The initiative aims to reduce passenger pressure at Surat and Udhna railway stations while providing an alternative boarding point for passengers travelling towards North India, West India and East India.
According to a press release issued by Western Railway’s Vadodara Division Public Relations Officer Anubhav Saxena, Utran Railway Station is being upgraded with four full-length platforms to support the operation and stoppage of long-distance trains.
Utran Railway Station to Have Four Full-Length Platforms
As part of the infrastructure expansion, railway authorities are developing longer platforms to accommodate long-distance trains.
The earlier short-length platform has been removed, and a new platform approximately 600 metres long has been constructed on the northern side of the station.
The new platform is designed to accommodate long-distance trains with around 22 coaches, making it suitable for passenger boarding and train halts.
In addition, the extension work of Platform Numbers 3 and 4 is currently in progress. Once these infrastructure works are completed, Utran will have four full-length platforms for handling long-distance train operations.
Relief for Passengers Travelling During Diwali and Chhath Puja
Passenger traffic from Surat and surrounding areas increases significantly during Diwali and Chhath Puja, particularly for trains heading towards Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and other parts of North and East India.
Developing Utran as an additional boarding point is expected to help distribute passenger traffic and reduce congestion at Surat and Udhna railway stations.
The station may also provide an additional departure option for holiday special trains operating during the festive season, subject to railway operational arrangements and train schedules.
Relief for Bharuch and Ankleshwar Passengers
The development is expected to benefit migrant workers and other passengers living in Bharuch, Ankleshwar and nearby areas.
Currently, many passengers travel to Surat or Udhna to board long-distance trains. With Utran being developed as an additional boarding point, passengers may get the option to board selected special trains from Utran itself.
This could reduce the need to travel to the main Surat and Udhna stations, making festive-season journeys more convenient.
Utran to Be Developed as Surat’s Satellite Railway Station
The development of Utran Railway Station is part of efforts to strengthen railway infrastructure in the Surat region.
With four full-length platforms, the station is expected to provide additional capacity for long-distance train operations and help railway authorities manage passenger movement more efficiently.
The initiative is particularly important during the festive season, when thousands of passengers travel from Gujarat to their hometowns for Diwali and Chhath Puja.
Will Diwali Special Trains Operate from Utran Railway Station?
The infrastructure development is intended to create the possibility of operating selected holiday special trains from Utran Railway Station. However, the final list of trains, stoppages and boarding arrangements will depend on official railway announcements.
Passengers should check the latest train schedules and boarding station details through official Indian Railways platforms before travelling.
The development of Utran Railway Station is expected to strengthen Surat’s railway network and provide passengers with another option for long-distance journeys during the festive season.
