Surat, September 21, 2026: In a unique initiative combining spirituality, environmental conservation and compassion for animals, a massive Ganpati figure measuring 100×50 feet has been created in Surat using vegetables and green grass.
The unusual installation has been prepared by Satya Seva Jivdaya Trust as part of the ongoing Ganeshotsav celebrations. The initiative aims to deliver a meaningful message of environmental responsibility and Jiv Daya, compassion and care for living beings.
2 Tonnes of Vegetables and 5 Tonnes of Green Grass Used
According to the organisers, approximately 2 tonnes of vegetables and 5 tonnes of green grass were used to create the giant Ganpati figure.
The installation features a variety of vegetables, including:
- Bottle gourd
- Carrots
- Cucumbers
- Tomatoes
- Potatoes
- Bananas
- Other seasonal vegetables and green fodder
The massive figure reportedly took around seven hours to prepare, with nearly 100 people working together to complete the unique arrangement.
Eco-Friendly Ganeshotsav Initiative in Surat
Unlike conventional festival decorations that may generate waste after celebrations, the organisers decided to use the materials for a constructive purpose.
Instead of immersing the vegetables and grass after darshan, the organisers have planned to donate the entire material to a panjrapole, where it will be offered as mahaprasad to approximately 1,000 cows. This decision connects religious celebration with environmental awareness and animal welfare, while also reducing unnecessary wastage during the festival.
Visitors Appreciate the Message of Jiv Daya
People visiting the installation have appreciated the initiative, describing it as a distinctive way of connecting devotion, service and compassion during Ganeshotsav.
The organisers have also highlighted the importance of choosing meaningful service-oriented activities during festivals instead of spending excessively on decorations and arrangements that may create avoidable waste.
The unique Ganpati figure has attracted attention for presenting a message that celebrations can be conducted with faith while also respecting nature and supporting animal welfare.
