The Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, has officially released the eagerly awaited India Post GDS 4th Merit List 2026. Candidates who applied for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) recruitment drive can now check their selection status on the official portal at indiapost.gov.in/gdsonlineengagement
This fourth selection list has been published to fill the remaining vacant slots across various postal circles left over from the previous three document verification phases. The entire recruitment drive aims to fill 28,636 vacancies across India for the positions of Branch Postmaster (BPM), Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM), and Dak Sevak.
No Exam, Purely Merit-Based Selection
Following the standard protocol of India Post, the GDS selection process does not involve any written examination or formal interview. Shortlisted candidates are selected purely through a system-generated merit list calculated up to an accuracy of four decimal places, strictly based on marks secured in the Secondary School Examination (Class 10).
Important Details Covered in the GDS 4th Merit List PDF
When candidates download their respective region’s circle-wise PDF, they should carefully verify the following details to confirm their selection:
- Candidate’s Registration Number
- Allotted Division and Office Name
- Post Name (BPM, ABPM, or Dak Sevak)
- Post Community Category (General/OBC/SC/ST/EWS/PwD)
- Percentage of Marks obtained in Class 10
- Designated Divisional Office for Document Verification

Crucial Next Step: Document Verification (DV)
Securing a spot on the 4th merit list does not guarantee final employment. Shortlisted candidates must report to their allotted Divisional Office for physical document verification. According to the instructions on the official portal, the deadline to successfully complete the document verification phase is June 23, 2026.
Documents Required for the DV Process:
Candidates must carry their original documents along with two sets of self-attested photocopies:
- Original Class 10 Marksheet and Passing Certificate
- Valid Photo Identity Proof (Aadhaar Card, PAN Card, or Voter ID)
- Community/Caste Certificate (if applicable for OBC/SC/ST/EWS)
- Disability Certificate (if applying under the PwD category)
- Recent passport-size photographs
Failure to report to the designated divisional office on or before the June 23 deadline will result in immediate disqualification from the selection cycle.
