Surat, September 22, 2026: The Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has imposed a ₹10,000 fine on Blinkit after a customer reportedly received moldy bread through the quick-commerce delivery platform.
The incident has raised concerns about food quality, storage conditions and the responsibility of online grocery delivery services to ensure that customers receive safe and fresh food products.
Customer Complains About Moldy Bread
According to the report, a Surat customer ordered bread through Blinkit but received a packet containing moldy bread. Following the complaint, the matter came to the attention of the Surat Municipal Corporation’s food safety authorities. Officials reportedly took action after examining the complaint and the condition of the delivered food item.
SMC Imposes ₹10,000 Penalty
The civic body imposed a penalty of ₹10,000 on Blinkit in connection with the incident. The action highlights the importance of maintaining proper food storage, checking expiry dates and ensuring quality control throughout the delivery process. Food products such as bread require suitable storage conditions to prevent spoilage. Any lapse in handling or storage can create health concerns for consumers.
Food Safety Responsibility of Delivery Platforms
The incident also brings attention to the growing use of online grocery and quick-commerce platforms in Surat.
