SMC Water Cut News: Surat residents in several areas should prepare for a temporary disruption in water supply on Wednesday, July 23, as the Surat Municipal Corporation (SMC) has announced a scheduled water cut. The interruption is necessary because Dakshin Gujarat Vij Company Limited (DGVCL) will be carrying out electrical maintenance work that will affect the operation of the city’s water infrastructure.
SMC has advised residents to store sufficient drinking water in advance and use it wisely until normal supply resumes.
Why Is There an SMC Water Cut on July 23?
According to the Surat Municipal Corporation, the temporary water supply disruption is linked to DGVCL’s planned power shutdown for maintenance activities. Since pumping stations depend on uninterrupted electricity to distribute water across the city, the maintenance work will impact water supply in several localities. The civic body has assured residents that the water supply will be restored immediately after the electrical work is completed.
Areas Likely to Be Affected
According to the civic body, DGVCL will undertake installation and maintenance work on the 11 KV power supply system at the Dindoli Water Distribution Station campus in the South-East Zone (Limbayat). As a result, water supply from the Dindoli Pumping Station will remain suspended or available at very low pressure between 10:30 am and 5:00 pm.
In the Limbayat Zone, the evening water supply will be affected in areas including Manshi Residency, Modi Estate, Morya Nagar, Yogeshwar Park, Godadara Gamtal, Aasar Nagar, Khodiyar Nagar, Maharana Pratap Society, Priyanka-3 and 4, Neelkanth Nagar, Devi Darshan, Rishi Nagar, Priyanka Megacity, Parvat Gamtal, Umiya Nagar, Purushottam Nagar, Chandralok Society, Bhakti Nagar, Sahajanand, Mahadev Nagar, D.K. Nagar, Ratnaprabha, Kalpana Nagar, Kailash Nagar, Gurunagar, Veerdarshan, Hare Krishna, Vrindavan, Nandanvan, Priyanka City Plus, J.B. Nagar, Lakshmi Park, Sky View Heights, Skylom Heights and Sapphire-8.
In Udhna Zone-A, water supply will be affected in Dundigam, Dipaligam, Prime Point, Gajanand Sankul, Anupam City, Vadod Gam, Awas, Bamroli Gam, Amidhara Society, Umiya Residency, Aastha Residency, Shlok Arcade, Om Complex, Trupti Nagar, Laxmi Nagar, Jai Ambe, Sukhi Nagar, Jaykrishna Nagar, Amrit Nagar, Rameshwar Green, Rameshwar Hills, Balaji Nagar, Maratha Nagar, Shringal Residency, Bhestan Awas, Ummed Nagar and nearby industrial areas.
In Udhna Zone-B, the affected areas include Ungam, Tirupati Nagar, Tirupati Balaji Township, Gabheni Village, Bhindi Bazaar, Budiya Village, Jiav Village, Pardi Kanade, Sachin Station area, Jalaram Nagar, Kansad Village, 28 Gal, Umang Society, Gokuldham, Sachin Halpati Vas, Rabari Vas, Mahavir Society, Shiv Shakti Society, Karuna Park, Vishnu Nagar, Pali, Talangpore and Uber village along with adjoining localities.
The temporary disruption is expected to affect water supply in multiple parts of Surat connected to the impacted pumping network.
Residents in the affected localities may experience:
- Delayed water supply
- Low water pressure
- Temporary interruption in regular supply
SMC has requested citizens living in these areas to store water in advance for essential household needs.
Duration of the Water Supply Disruption
The water cut is expected to remain in effect during the scheduled maintenance period on July 23. Once DGVCL completes the electrical work and power is restored to the pumping stations, the municipal corporation will gradually resume normal water distribution.
In some areas, normal water pressure may take a few hours to stabilize.
Advisory for Surat Residents
The Surat Municipal Corporation has issued the following advisory:
- Store enough drinking and domestic water before the scheduled shutdown.
- Use water carefully during the interruption.
- Avoid unnecessary wastage of stored water.

Why Electrical Maintenance Affects Water Supply
Most of Surat’s municipal water distribution system relies on electrically operated pumping stations. During planned maintenance by DGVCL, these stations cannot function, resulting in temporary disruption of water supply until electricity is restored.
