VADODARA: Vadodara city will witness major traffic restrictions on August 14, 2026, as authorities have announced a special traffic diversion plan for the Tiranga Yatra being organised ahead of Independence Day.
According to the Vadodara Traffic Branch advisory, traffic restrictions will come into effect from 3:00 PM on August 14 and remain in place until the procession concludes. The Tiranga Yatra is scheduled to begin at 4:00 PM from Navlakhi Maidan and conclude at Gandhinagar Gruh.
Tiranga Yatra Route in Vadodara
The procession will start from Navlakhi Maidan and proceed through several important roads and junctions before reaching Gandhinagar Gruh.
The notified route includes:
- Navlakhi Maidan
- Pathara Gate
- Rajmahal Gate
- Kirti Stambh Circle
- Nehru Bhavan Three Roads
- Market Four Roads
- Sardar Bhagat Singh Chowk Circle
- Lalkothi Building Three Roads
- Padmavati Shopping Centre
- Gandhinagar Gruh
The advisory says the route has been planned as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga celebrations being held ahead of India’s 80th Independence Day. The programme will involve police, armed forces, Central Armed Police Forces, NCC and SPC cadets and supporting units.
Major Roads to Face Traffic Restrictions
Several roads leading toward the Tiranga Yatra route will be temporarily closed to vehicles.
Maharani Nursing Home to Rajmahal Gate
Vehicles will not be permitted to travel from Maharani Nursing Home Four Roads toward Rajmahal Gate. Commuters can instead use the route through Railway Headquarter Three Roads and Akota Four Roads.
Motibaug Tope to Rajmahal Gate
Traffic from Motibaug Tope toward Rajmahal Gate will remain restricted. Motorists can travel via Lalbagh Bridge to reach their destinations.
Bagikhana to Nehru Bhavan
Vehicles travelling from Bagikhana Three Roads toward Nehru Bhavan Three Roads will not be allowed. The alternative route will be through Motibaug Tope and Jyotiratna Building.
Sayajibaug to Market Police Chowki
Traffic from Sayajibaug Four Roads toward Market Police Chowki will be restricted. Commuters can use Bhesana Police Chowki Three Roads, Bagikhana Three Roads, Gurudwara Circle and Jyotiratna Building instead.
Jyotiratna Building to Market Four Roads
Vehicles will not be permitted from Jyotiratna Building Four Roads toward Market Four Roads. An alternative route is available via Nehru Bhavan, Bagikhana, Motibaug Tope and onward.
Wadiyabazar to Market Four Roads
Traffic from Wadiyabazar Four Roads toward Market Four Roads will also be restricted. Motorists can use Maharani Nursing Home Four Roads, Akota Four Roads, Railway Headquarter Three Roads and Tower Four Roads.
Further Restrictions Across the City
Additional restrictions have been announced at several points, including:
- Pathar Gate Police Chowki to Sardar Bhagat Singh Chowk
- Sadhana Cinema Three Roads to Sardar Bhagat Singh Chowk
- Fire Brigade Four Roads to Padmavati Triangle
- Rajupatti Samosa Three Roads to Pratap Cinema Three Roads
- Bhakti Circle to Gandhinagar Gruh Circle
- Tower Four Roads to Jubilee Baug Circle
Authorities have provided alternative routes for each of these locations to help commuters avoid the procession corridor.
Emergency Vehicles Exempted
The traffic restrictions will not apply to vehicles involved in essential and emergency services.
The advisory specifically provides exemptions for:
- Police vehicles deployed on duty
- Ambulances
- Fire brigade vehicles
- Emergency vehicles
- Vehicles stopped as part of the Tiranga Yatra arrangements
- Other vehicles permitted under the traffic advisory
Emergency movement will therefore continue despite the temporary road restrictions.
Commuters Advised to Plan Travel in Advance
With the Tiranga Yatra passing through several important roads in central Vadodara, commuters are advised to plan their journeys before leaving home on August 14. Motorists travelling through areas around Rajmahal Gate, Nehru Bhavan, Market Four Roads, Sardar Bhagat Singh Chowk and Gandhinagar Gruh should expect diversions and possible delays.
Citizens are encouraged to follow instructions from traffic police personnel and use the alternative routes specified in the official advisory.
Tiranga Yatra to Mark Independence Day Celebrations
The Tiranga Yatra is being organised as part of the Har Ghar Tiranga programme ahead of Independence Day on August 15. The Vadodara Traffic Branch has issued the advisory to ensure that the patriotic procession can take place safely while maintaining traffic movement across the city.
As Vadodara prepares for the celebrations, motorists should take note of the temporary restrictions and allow additional travel time on August 14.
