Ahmedabad will remain on high alert on Friday, July 24, 2026, after the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) announced the closure of all schools and colleges in the city due to forecasts of heavy to extremely heavy rainfall.
The precautionary decision comes as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned of intense monsoon activity across Gujarat, with Ahmedabad witnessing widespread waterlogging, traffic disruptions, and overflowing underpasses following continuous rainfall.
All Schools and Colleges to Remain Closed
According to the AMC, all government, grant-in-aid, private schools, colleges, and educational institutions within Ahmedabad city will remain closed on July 24 to ensure the safety of students and staff. The civic administration urged parents and students to avoid unnecessary travel and follow official advisories until weather conditions improve.
Heavy Rain Causes Waterlogging Across Ahmedabad
Heavy rainfall since Thursday morning has affected several parts of Ahmedabad, particularly the southwest and northwest zones. Roads, residential areas, and underpasses witnessed severe waterlogging, causing traffic congestion and disruptions to daily life.
Although water levels receded at some underpasses during the day, continued rainfall forced authorities to remain on alert for renewed flooding.
IMD Forecast: More Heavy Rain Expected
The India Meteorological Department has predicted that Ahmedabad and several districts of Gujarat may continue to receive heavy to extremely heavy rainfall over the next 24 hours.
Meteorologists have advised residents to:
