A regular morning turned into an absolute nightmare for a local farmer in South Gujarat when a massive, lethal reptile sneaked into a high-density livestock area. A massive 4.5-foot-long Indian Cobra infiltrated a crowded poultry farm in Suthar Faliya, located within Poniya village of Pardi taluka in Valsad district.
The unexpected presence of the highly venomous apex predator sparked severe panic and chaos within the farm premises. Hundreds of chickens began fluttering frantically to escape the hunting ground of the slithering intruder. Thanks to the rapid intervention of local wildlife enthusiasts, a potential disaster for both human life and livestock was averted.
Intrusion in Suthar Faliya: A Poultry Farm Under Siege
The poultry farm, owned and operated by a local resident named Kanubhai Patel, houses hundreds of broiler chickens. During the hot summer months, wild reptiles frequently emerge from their natural underground burrows in search of cooler resting spots, hydration, and easy prey like rodents or small birds.
When Kanubhai went inside the shed to inspect his daily stock, he noticed an unusual commotion in one corner of the cages. Upon closer inspection, he was horrified to find a large, dark Indian Cobra coiled near the lower feeding trays. Realizing that the cobra- locally referred to as Kalotro – could easily wipe out his livestock or bite his workers, he immediately evacuated the shed and dialled the emergency contact numbers for local animal welfare organizations.
The Rescue Operation: Jivdaya Group Executes Flawless Extraction
Recognizing the life-threatening severity of the situation, two expert handlers from the ‘Jivdaya Group – Pardi’, Yasin Multani and Rishi Thakur, grabbed their professional rescue equipment and rushed to Poniya village, arriving at the scene within mere minutes.
Operational Challenges Inside the Shed
- Restricted Space: The dense layout of the chicken cages made it incredibly difficult to navigate with snake hooks without agitating the reptile.
- Agitated Cobra: Defensive by nature, the 4.5-foot cobra flared its iconic hood and hissed loudly, signaling its readiness to strike any approaching target.
- Safety First Protocol: The rescue operators prioritized saving the animal without causing any internal or external injuries while keeping bystanders at a safe distance.
Using precise coordination and years of handling experience, Yasin and Rishi managed to gently pin the cobra using specialized, rubber-tipped snake tongs. They maneuvered the dangerous reptile out of the narrow cage gap and safely guided it into a secure, breathable transport container. The entire delicate extraction was completed successfully without a single scratch to the snake, the handlers, or the chickens.
Rising Human-Wildlife Conflicts in South Gujarat
Wildlife experts state that industrial expansion and agricultural developments near rural forest borders in Valsad and Vapi have greatly intensified seasonal human-snake encounters. Monsoons and peak summer seasons drive these nocturnal hunters directly into human settlements, kitchens, and livestock sheds.
Following standard conservation operating procedures, the Jivdaya Group team logged the rescue entry with the local Forest Department officials. After verifying that the cobra was in perfect physical condition and free of trauma, the team transported the snake deep into a remote forest zone away from human habitats, releasing it safely back into its natural environment. Kanubhai Patel and the residents of Poniya village expressed immense gratitude to the brave volunteer rescuers for their timely service.
